What is Mail Server Forwarding service?
Posted by on 07 February 2013 08:24 PM

Mail Server Forwarding is used to forward all mail from one mail server to another mail server for a particular domain. The destination mail server (an MTA, mail transfer agent), must have the ability to accept mail for the domain. The email is not delivered to the mail forwarding server, it is just routed through the server. This service is extremely popular for people that want to accept mail on a port other than port 25, for example if their IP is blocking port 25.

It is important to note, email account forwarding used within IMAP / POP products operate differently as the destination for the email is not another mail server, but actually another email address. The email is delivered to the forwarding system and then it is resent to the destination (forward) email address. This solution is very easy to setup as no configuration of a mail server is required. DNS Made Easy does not offer email account forwarding services.

DNS Made Easy's Mail Server Forwarding service also includes backup email service. DNS Made Easy's back-up email service provides access to three (3) additional enterprise email server clusters for complete email redundancy. This provides an extra three levels of MX records giving your domain three extra levels of MX priority. If your mail server cannot be reached, then your email is sent to DNS Made Easy's Enterprise Back-up email servers. Once it reaches our servers, it remains in queue and we continually check to see if your primary server is back online. When the monitor detects that your primary server is back online, the queued mail is instantly delivered to your mail server. DNS Made Easy will keep attempting to deliver mail to your server for 14 days or until it responds.

How do I configure mail server forwarding in DNS Made Easy?

How long until the backup email servers return queued mail?

Where can I see the mail being stored on the backup email servers...

Can I POP backed up email from your backup email servers?

How do you test backup mail?

When testing backup email, I am seeing a 450 error.
